PhD studentships
We have an exciting opportunity for a PhD candidate to join the Accelerator Physics Group at the University of Melbourne, commencing in early 2027.
This project aims to unlock the potential of novel superconducting magnets by advancing our understanding of how they influence beam behaviour. Based in the School of Physics, the student will join a new collaboration between the University of Melbourne, the Australian Synchrotron (ANSTO), and the University of Manchester.
Masters projects
We aim to take on one or two Masters students every year, as part of the University of Melbourne Master of Science programme. For more information about the course structure, see the course website.
Previous Masters projects in our group have included the design of a beamline for charged particle therapy, and analysis of real data from high-gradient accelerator systems.
We have a number of Masters projects available for students commencing in Semester 1 of 2027.
Undergraduate research
The School of Physics supports Undergraduate student research projects during the summer and winter break through the Laby Research Scholars Programme. We usually host one or two student projects through this scheme.
We are also able to supervise Undergraduate projects through the SCIE30001 Science Research Project option.
