Hd-3 Adiabatic Gas Law Apparatus

Aim

The PASCO Adiabatic Gas Law Apparatus enables the user to investigate the compression and expansion of gases. Sensitive transducers in the apparatus measure the pressure, temperature, and volume of the gas almost simultaneously as the gas is compressed or expanded rapidly under near adiabatic conditions, or slowly under isothermal conditions.

Description

With the Adiabatic Gas law Apparatus connect to a laptop via the 750/850 Science Workshop Interface. Pressure, Temperature and Volume can be measured with Capstone software. Open one the taps at the bottom of the cylinder. Raise the piston to the top of its travel, then the tap. Compress the air in the cylinder by pressing down on the piston. An increase in Temperature and Pressure should be observed on the graphs in Capstone, while there is a decrease in Volume. The temperature slowly decreases if the piston is retained in the bottom position while the pressure remains constant, due to radiation. When the piston is raised to the upper limit, the Temperature and Pressure will decrease, while the volume increases.
