Aim
To demonstrate an industrial application of electrostatics.

- Van de Graaff generator
- Cottrell precipitator (as in diagram)
- Incense sticks

Description
Smoke from incense sticks passes through a glass tube containing a central electrode and an outer earthing mesh. The smoke is clearly visible. On applying high voltage to the central electrode the smoke issuing from the top of the "chimney" is greatly reduced.
