Ea-10 Magnetic Field Around Current
Aim
To demonstrate that magnetic field is formed in circular pattern around a straight current conductor.
Apparatus
- DC Power Supply (10A)
- Straight Current Apparatus
- 4 Compasses
- Reversing Switch
Description
The apparatus is construction so that the conductor (copper wire) is in a vertical position. Four Compasses a mounted on a perspex horizontal platform so that the conductor traverses through the middle. When the power is turned on the current will either flowing up or down. The Compass needles will arrange themselves in a circular pattern around the conductor. Reversing the direction of the current using the reversing switch, will change the direction of the compass needles 180° keeping the circular pattern.
