We are pleased to announce a new ARC Federation Fellow to the School of Physics team - Professor Tony Gherghetta – an expat returning to Melbourne from University of Minnesota, USA in December 2007. He will take up his post within the Theoretical Particle Physics group to continue his research interests in the area of the ‘Quantum Universe’. A media release contains more info... We also make welcome Dr Nicole Bell who joins the TPP group as teaching & research staff, most recently from Caltech.
Last year also saw the reappointment of Professor Keith Nugent’s Federations Fellowship for another 5 years. Professor Nugent was also made Laureate Professor by the University for his contributions to optical and X-ray science – a great achievement.
The School’s own teaching & research academics, Professors Geoff Taylor and Lloyd Hollenberg were also awarded ARC Professorial Fellowships while Drs Stuart Wyithe and Andrew Greentree were awarded ARC QE11 Fellowships in 2007/8 - this is a great acknowledgment of the quality of their research.
Finally, we would also like to welcome and extend our congratulations to our latest ARC Australian Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr Max Schlosshauer, originally from the University of Washington. Max has been busy with the release of his new book, Decoherence and the Quantum-To-Classical Transitions, Springer, another great achievement! Book details...
