VCE Physics students, come along and find out about the properties of light using both the particle and wave models.

Electromagnetic radiation serves as a prototype for understanding quantum mechanical phenomena and, ultimately, particle physics, and is readily accessible to simple experiments that highlight its apparently dual character.

We discuss some familiar properties of light, such as reflection, refraction and diffraction, with a view to understanding the fundamental principles that describe these phenomena. The presentation requires minimal mathematical knowledge beyond simple algebra and geometry.
